Exactly two weeks after being diagnosed with breast cancer I had the appointment to discuss the results of my biopsy of the left boob and I was hoping we would know what the plan of action was. Ironically still in September and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month which is my busiest month of the year.

Bern came with me for the appointment and we went in almost an hour late, not that we were upset about it as we both said we were sure appointments would overrun with so many questions to ask and information to take in.

We had a lovely nurse who is going to be my breast nurse and a female consultant. She told me the two lumps were cancer and stage 2. They were oestrogen fed and were average tumours, not overly aggressive. She said this was GOOD. I have to say that when you come out it is hard to remember the terminology even when there were two of us in there. She examined me and told me she would be operating to remove them. She said she might need to take a bit of skin from somewhere else if needed!! and that hopefully it would not look very different from now! She also said that she would take 2 or more lymph nodes to be certain that they are clear of the cancer. At the moment they do not think it is in my lymph nodes.

We have a bit of a question mark over the right boob as that one has a cluster of calcium cells which are inconclusive at the mo. A group of experts are going to look at it from the biopsy’s and decide on Tuesday whether anything needs to be done with it or I might need more biopsy’s done! Not the best for me as they take the bits from your boob while it is in the mammogram machine!!! not comfortable!! But what will be will be.

The good thing is – we can go on holiday in October which we booked last year to Japan and a cruise around east asia. We asked her if we should cancel it and have the surgery earlier but she said that she could give me a drug (Letrozole) which will shrink the tumour. It is used for older ladies who have breast cancer and are not up to surgery and was used in the pandemic for ladies when operations could not happen. She also said that since I came off my HRT the tumours might be shrinking. As I understand it, HRT does not cause breast cancer but breast cancer feeds off it.

So the plan – Surgery on one or two boobs on November 14th and I am to rest for 3 weeks!!!

After I have healed I will have 3 weeks of radiotherapy every day and this would make me tired.

Chemo has been talked about but is not a definite at this point.

I actually came out elated! A bit weird I know but firstly we can have our holiday, which I think we will need and secondly we have a plan so I can put things in my diary and take things out!! More out than in!!

Most of those close to me don’t think I can manage this! My sister says she is going to come and work in my kitchen to keep an eye on me! and someone suggested I get used to TV!! Bern has sorted every streaming channel going on the TV where I normally sit and work. I do have a comfy sofa in there too, but I don’t watch TV except BBC 24 hour news!! I am really boring!! I like to know what is going on in the world!

I will be reading – magazines and books and being a good girl!

Let me know if you have any other ideas! I do like colouring actually and did a bit of knitting once. A long scarf with lots of holes in it!

I am hoping this blog is not going to be too long. Lets hope for another 3 months and then CLEAR!!
